Are the Daughters of Charity "shrugging"?

Original post made by Jack Hickey, Woodside: Emerald Hills, on Jan 16, 2015

"Robert Issai, president and CEO of the Daughters of Charity Health System in California, said mounting debt caused by several factors, including the 2008 recession and changes in health care payment systems, necessitated the decision, which was announced last month." Web Link

Obamacare strikes again. Is this another Atlas "shrugging"? Is this the type of public policy Ayn Rand had in mind when she wrote Atlas Shrugged?

I recently viewed the BluRay version of Atlas Shrugged, and recommend it to those who would hope to understand what is happening in this country today. Web Link

Quoting Ayn Rand? Don't you know better than to quote badly written fiction?

"the 2008 recession" = "Obamacare strikes again"

Uh, okay.

Whatever, Jack.

Nice worldview ya got there.

didn't Ayn Rand dip her libertarian toes into the public trough herself? Took Social Security and Medicare while making money railing against them, if I recall.

"Is this the type of public policy Ayn Rand had in mind when she wrote Atlas Shrugged?" Never trust a libertarian on PUBLIC policy.

Hypocrites, all.

Jack Hickey -- "I just viewed a 30 minute documentary about the production of the Atlas Shrugged movie. I urge you to view it. It will change your life and give you hope for the future."

And that is why it is never worth listening to ill-informed cultists, boys and girls...

Quit talking down Ayn Rand, one of the true American heroes - through and through!

A good dose of Randian policies would be welcome - instead, we have O'Bummer abusing our wealthy job creators by suggesting they pay more taxes so he can give tax cuts to lazy middle class families.

When's the last time a piddling middle class person created jobs like the great Mitt Romney or Sheldon Adelson? I mean, look at all the jobs Adelson creates with just the hundreds of millions he donates to political candidates! What a great man!

If that was satire, bucko, it failed.

If you were actually being serious, you need help.

Ayn Rand and Libertarians seek lower taxes on wealth and job creators, which creates a rising tide that lifts all boats (well, many boats.) For example, taxes on the top 1% are almost at their lowest point in nearly a century, with near constant rate reductions from Kennedy thru Reagan thru Bush, with only a small hiccup from Obama. The top rate when Reagan took office in 1980 was 70%; it is now essentially 35%.

This has resulted in the job creator class, the top 1%, between 1980 and 2008, their income grew by 275%. Income for non-job-creators did not grow much. Job creators, like hedge fund managers, and the aforementioned Mitt Romney, were freed to do their thing. It got even better during the recession, with the top 1% getting a 13 percent raise in 2009. Another 13% in 2010. 14% in 2011. In 2012, incomes of the top 1% jumped 20%. Web Link

Mitt's failure in 2012 was to talk about the 47% of Americans who are The Takers, not The Makers.

Mitt knows that the rest of America, the bottom 80%, has had their incomes become stagnant or drop precipitously; Mitt knows they are not job creators, so they don't deserve it the way a hedge fund manager deserves it.

I find it shocking that Mitt Romney only received 47% of the vote. Just shocking.

Is Mitt going to release his tax returns this time? The reason McCain didn't choose him in 2008 was that Mitt showed him 20 years of returns and McCain said "fuhgiddaboutit", they're too toxic for the public to see how much Mitt hides in tax shelters and other dodges.

Has anyone viewing this topic seen Atlas Shrugged or read the book? I'm not sure if Mitt Romney has read it. I know Ron Paul did.

Does anyone sense the government induced frustration which the Daughters of Charity must be experiencing?

Of course Mitt Romney has read the fiction from Ayn Rand - he got a copy from his running mate. You do not seem to follow the guys you voted for, Jack.

to your question - Does anyone sense the government induced frustration which the Daughters of Charity must be experiencing?

Yes.

Absolutely.

Tremendous frustration.

Not just palpable frustration, but certifiable pain, along with demonstrable losses in wealth and income for MILLIONS OF AMERICANS.

Just terrible. Allow me to elucidate.

The republicans in government and their role in reducing regulations on Wall Street (repealing Glast Steigal, etc..) that led directly to the Bush Great Recession you referenced above ("the 2008 recession") is extremely frustrating. This is why having brilliant politicians in office, such as Elizabeth Warren, as opposed to the crazy Paul Ryan libertarian types, is so important to protect our society from Corporate and Wall Street greed run amok.

Thanks for asking, Jack.

The 2008 Bush Great Recession was a failure of government, a failure led by republicans.

@Hank -- You must realize that "people" like Jack Hickey are putting out nonsense from a rather limited knowledge base. To put it bluntly, that bird don't know jack about what he's talking about.

But that's what you get from ill-informed zealots like that.

Gary Johnson was my man in 2012. Ron Paul is my man in Congress. You can see him in the 30 minute documentary about the production of the Atlas Shrugged movie. Web Link

Hank, you didn't mention if you had read Atlas Shrugged or seen the movie.

Ron Paul is your man?

Ron Paul, of the racist and puerile Ron Paul newsletters? That Ron Paul? You bring up THAT Ron Paul on today, of all days?!!?!?!

The Ron Paul newsletters in the 90's said many evil things, including this about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: "the world-class philanderer who beat up his paramours" and who "seduced underage girls and boys." Web Link

Pretty disgusting, Mr. Hickey.

Pretty disgusting.

You need to apologize. And then go away.

Why are these commentors avoiding Atlas Shrugged? Does it scare them to think that Objectivism is taking root in this country? Are their premises faulty?
