Clients & Volunteers Needed for Senior Peer Counseling Program

Original post made by K. Chouteau, another community, on Aug 28, 2009

Family Service Agency of San Mateo County has received a one-year, $283,140 contract renewal from San Mateo County to continue its Senior Peer Counseling Program. Through the program, volunteers provide free peer counseling to San Mateo County older adults age 55-plus in English, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Tagalog, and to the Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender community.

Family Service currently seeks both clients and volunteers for the program. County residents interested in volunteering as senior peer counselors are welcomed to an orientation on September 14 at Family Service, 24 Second Avenue, San Mateo. Training at the same location begins on September 29 and will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. through November 30. For info on volunteering or benefiting from the program as a client, please call Geri Lustenberg at 650-403-4300, #4389 or visit www.familyserviceagency.org.
