This is the kind of article that inspires, and Connie Heldman has inspired ME! We could use a lot of models like her and the Almanac does all of us a great service by providing them. Kudos to the paper, to Heldman, and particularly to those fine young graduates!
Warmly, Anne

This column is immensely moving and inspiring. Ms. Heldman, you and your husband are magnificent people, and a great asset to our community. I hope many people read your story and are inspired to add their light to the sum of lights. I certainly am motivated to do so. Thank you for your work and for sharing your story with us.

What a gift the Heldmans have given, not only to the four young people they took under their wings but to the community.
I find the headline of the column a little odd, though. "Payoff"? As I read Ms. Heldman's words, she mentored these kids not for a payoff, but as an attempt to make a difference in their lives. And she did. Her story warms my heart.
