This is the kind of article that inspires, and Connie Heldman has inspired ME! We could use a lot of models like her and the Almanac does all of us a great service by providing them. Kudos to the paper, to Heldman, and particularly to those fine young graduates!

This column is immensely moving and inspiring. Ms. Heldman, you and your husband are magnificent people, and a great asset to our community. What a gift the Heldmans have given, not only to the four young people they took under their wings but to the community.
I find the headline of the column a little odd, though. "Payoff"? As I read Ms. Heldman's words, she mentored these kids not for a payoff, but as an attempt to make a difference in their lives. And she did. Her story warms my heart.
