Menlo Park council votes to allow development of up to 100 housing units per acre in downtown

Original post made on Nov 30, 2023

After going back and forth at a Nov. 28 meeting, the Menlo Park City Council vote for seven rezoning resolutions, including allowing up to 100 units per acre downtown. With bonuses for affordable housing, that could rise to 150 units.

Shame on the voters in Menlo Park in the last two elections for returning these incumbents to the council. They're destroying our city, and most of the apathetic homeowners aren't going to pay attention until it hits them in the property values. HARD

@MenloLifestyle District 5 never had the opportunity to vote for its candidate. Council Members Nash and Woloson stripped us of that opportunity and appointed a recent college grad who is neither a homeowner nor a long-term resident.

More traffic, congestion, crime, and over-crowded classrooms. Should be great.

Housing organizations and developers from outside of Menlo are clearly in control of our Planning Commission and City Council.

MP Father:

It actually has nothing to do with outside developers. It has to do with the fact that our current council values their progressive agendas more than they do doing what they were elected to do. And they are going to shove them down our throats because they know better than the rest of us and they're "saving the world".

Where does this council think all theae bew residents are going to spend their paychecks if there are no protections or requirements for shops and restaurants? This “streamlining” means that entire shopping centers can disappear just when we need more!

Cool! Hopefully this new housing will be affordable so that the new residents can instead spend their hard earned cash at the new sushi restaurant in town that costs "$109 to $189 " per person for a meal w/o drinks. This town is getting ridiculous...

Let’s watch to see what developers actually build. It’s unclear that we will see a lot of new project break ground in the coming years.

And above all, let’s see what percentage of affordable housing gets built, which has been the primary impetus for all these state housing bills.

The next huge developments are coming to downtown and central Menlo. All you folks who re-elected Nash can pat yourselves on the back. Especially you homeowners. I hope you weren't counting on those property values.
