New cost estimate for high-speed rail puts California bullet train $100 billion in the red

A new High-Speed Rail Authority report projects costs for the initial segment at $35 billion, which exceeds secured funding by $10 billion.

California HSR is of course a grotesque waste of money and squandering of resources. The best time to cancel it was before it began. The second best time is now.

But, as with many things, government waste and inefficiency is the point, as taxpayer wealth is forcibly redirected to favored unions, consultancies, and construction firms.
