Fearing for staff in the searing heat, Alpine Inn closes Tuesday, losing an estimated $25K in sales

Soaring temperatures on Tuesday forced the Alpine Inn in Portola Valley to close down. With no air conditioning at the historic tavern, "it was just not safe for my team to work in conditions like this," said one of its owners.
