Bay Area law enforcement grapples with rise in 'ghost guns'

Officials in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties have reported a significant rise in "ghost guns" over the last few years. They're untraceable, illegal and too often in the hands of criminals.

"Ghost guns" are not illegal. ATF itself says so. If the article starts with a lie, everything else is not very credible too.

That is what I initially thought but in actuality California made it a law that any firearms manufactured without a serial number had to obtain a serial number from the state DOJ within 10 days of manufacture and that serial number had to be engraved on the firearm. So essentially any "Ghost gun" that has not been registered and had a serial number engraved on it is illegal in California.
