Yup. Quality of life has declined due to both the isolation of the pandemic and the stressful effects of the high cost of living. It's no-where near as fun to live around here when you're on zoom all day for work and again at night with school open-houses and committee meetings. We've hiked every trail in the bay area, and enjoyed the reduced traffic, but the community has greatly diminished.

Costs for everything from housing, rent, groceries, restaurants, clothes and more seem out of touch with their intrinsic value, and I'm only in my 40s, not someone wishing for the prices of long ago. Nobody can buy a house without a major stock windfall, family money, or maybe they were one of the luckies to buy 10+ years ago and have equity. Everyone else pretty much has to move out of the bay area. Even rentals are priced astronomically, and in commonly in pretty bad shape. There is no way my kids will be able to buy a home/make a good life around here, so we might as well move out sooner rather than later. There are many beautiful areas in the country. We've built a life here and would like to stay, but it isn't worth the 3-4 mil that sellers now want for their middle class homes.
