By the sound of things last night, and for the past week or two, they are not doing that great of a job. I constantly hear explosions that I can only hope are fireworks. They start in the evening and I have heard them in the middle of the night. Sone are close enough or larger enough that the rattle the windows.

Can you report on the people who set off these fireworks? Why they do it, where they get them?

Is it possible to just increase patrols in areas where police see, or hear fireworks are being set off frequently? On many nights, but especially Friday and Saturdays, you can hear fireworks being set off in several locations right before, and soon as it gets dark. Getting a tip would help, but it seems that just being out in the community would get even more results.

Also, has the East Palo Alto City Council ever considered fining property owners for the firework use? Since so many “single family” homes are rentals, with sometimes multiple families living in them, why not target the largest stake holder in the home for the fine? The landlord or LLC that owns the property would be much more able to effectively stop the fireworks if they were faced with something like a $1000 fine every time one of their tenants uses some fireworks.

I hope they can get it under control. I think it's just about cheap thrills ... but the fire danger - this year in particular - is off the charts, so I think the city should show very little tolerance.
