Of course, the destroyed homes was tragic; I don't want to take that lightly. However, as articles elsewhere have pointed out, a remarkable number of redwoods - particularly old-growth redwoods - seem likely to survive; and that fire is a natural part of the sequoia life cycle, and if the fire intensity was too great, can actually be healthy. So, while I will always be somewhat sad when thinking of this fire, I will recognize not everything about it is negative; be sad, but not despaired.
