Portola Valley: Council adopts moratorium on eviction of small businesses

The Portola Valley Town Council voted 4-1 at its April 15 meeting to approve an urgency ordinance enacting an eviction moratorium for small businesses that cannot pay rent due to the coronavirus crisis.

I have to ask...especially since we survived the Great Recession just a little over 10 years ago...shouldn't we have 4-6 months worth of expenses set aside in savings, personal expenses as well as business expenses if you are a business owner? The Shelter in Place seems to have wreaked havoc on us and it has been barely over a month. What would these people or businesses have done if they were injured in a car accident? I realize it is everyone, whole regions, the whole country. However, if we could do a better job of fiscal hygiene we might have less panic and overreaching government policy.

yes, I have to ask too why the airlines, oil, hotels, etc. also didn't have 4-6 months worth of expenses set aside too

Ooooooh...are you insinuating that the large companies you've mentioned are somehow *irresponsible*?

Not sure how the chap from Woodside would take that...*giggle*
