Menlo Park school district to offer distance-learning option in response to coronavirus outbreak

Menlo Park City School District parents can choose to have their children complete coursework from home instead of attending in-person classes in light of the spread of the novel coronavirus in the Bay Area, the district has announced.

This is a mistake. Schools are hotbeds of viral transmissions and even if the children don't get seriously ill, if they're exposed to the coronavirus, they can give it to their parents.
Other schools are closing to protect the community. Menlo Park has already declared an emergency here.
Parents should demand that our schools be temporarily closed as well.
No one likes this situation, but prevention of spreading is the smartest and most effective thing we can do at present.
