I commend this initiative and that both Chan and Zukerberg will contribute 99% of their shares in facebook to their non-profit.. But, think about how their money has been derived recently and how the company has refused to make sure false information is removed from facebook. facebook's refusal to strive for the truth taints its earnings and the good they can do with those earnings.
Chan needs to reintroduce to her husband the wonderful concepts for change talked about in the article. He and facebook have the means to take care of his online communities in more thoughtful, careful ways if they want to. For example, facebook can do more to take responsibility for disseminating wrong and misleading information about vaccinations. Why publish falsehoods? And, it needs to protect our democracy by stopping the dissemination of wrong and misleading political information.
facebook can be a force for good, and should be, but it can't have it both ways. It needs to take responsibility for the information it disseminates, just as newspapers and broadcast journalism does. Just as the Chan Zukerberg Initiative wants families to thrive and succeed, so should facebook.

Newspapers and broadcast journalism takes responsibility for what they publish? Have you watched cnn (where everything is breaking news) lately? Or read the New York Times where they publish first and verify later? So much news is engineering for ratings. Nothing but rubbish! Shouldn’t surprise anyone that Facebook is just an modern day rag only in the business for profit at it’s users expense.
