It puts me in mind of the phrase Cummings often used just before urging us to be better, when he challenged his colleagues to do what they know they should: "Come on now . . . " I can still hear Elijah's voice uttering those words and I say them to myself and to others when I know that right can prevail if we insist on it: "Come on, now . . . ."
