Letter: Honoring a man who knew: We can do better

This month, the beginning of 2020, is the anniversary of the birth of The Honorable Elijah Eugene Cummings, who was chairman of the House of Representative's Oversight Committee at the time of his death on Oct. 17, 2019.

This is a wonderfully incisive reminder of the powerful Cummings legacy. It puts me in mind of the phrase Cummings often used just before urging us to be better, when he challenged his colleagues to do what they know they should: "Come on now . . . " I can still hear Elijah's voice uttering those words and I say them to myself and to others when I know that right can prevail if we insist on it: "Come on, now . . . ."
