Belle Haven families and community come together to remember historic civil rights walk to school

Thursday, Nov. 14, marked the 59th year since 6-year-old African American student Ruby Bridges helped to desegregate schools in the South. To remember Bridges, Belle Haven students participated in their own special walk to school.

Thank you, The Almanac, for your coverage of this special event. As I reflect on yesterday's celebration, it was so powerful for the kids in Belle Haven to see and hear from Mayor Pro Tem Cecilia Taylor. She serves as a great inspiration and role model for the kids in her neighborhood, and throughout the City.

Thanks to Jen Wolosin and Mayor Pro Tem Cecelia Taylor for organizing this - it was a great community-building event and I made new friends from different neighborhoods while walking together for a shared cause.
