Guest opinion: Showdown at Bear Gulch Road as redwoods face chainsaw

Have you heard of PG&E? In their wisdom, but without much evidence to support it, they have decided that removing power wires from many-hundred-year-old trees to string onto newly placed poles increases fire safety. Our little community has been attempting to monitor their plans as they prepared to do just that along a stretch of our road, especially as it appeared that doing so would require cutting down a significant number of vintage redwood trees in order to maintain safe (prescribed) clearances.

Let’s start with cost which is easily accessible on the web. a typical elevated power line costs under half a million dollars per mile. A buried line costs a million dollars or more per mile. How much of that are you volunteering to pay?

Life is tough behind the locked gates, eh?.
Well, good luck handeling YOUR problem with, as you put it, "YOUR" trees.

Meanwhile, I'm glad PG&E is looking out for the rest of folks on the mountain.
