Menlo Voter. is a registered user.
You do know Stanford University, a private institution contracts with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's department for their police force? This is not unprecedented.

And that the Daily Mail is a British (not national) tabloid.

Here is the original article by Vice Media, which goes in depth into why there is concern around this issue- mostly around what it means for the surrounding working class, minority neighborhoods. One issue is the bikes that FB employees leave around town are often picked up by random people, and minorities have often in the past been flagged down by police because they “don’t look like FB employees” (because we subconsciously think dark-skinned folks somehow don’t have the smarts to work at tech companies??). I can attest to personally witnessing local police (and residents) seeing minorities in this area and reacting and saying things that show they subconsciously think those people don’t “belong” in the neighborhood/surprised to see a minority who actually lives in a nice neighborhood.

The Vice article does say that non-white Facebook employees are being harassed by the police, which is scary in itself.
