Screening Wed. Sept. 25th of "Cinema Paradiso" to honor the Menlo Park Guild theater and its staff

Original post made by Judy A, Menlo Park: Downtown, on Sep 24, 2019

Menlo Park's 90+ yr. old movie theater, the Guild, is closing Thurs. Sept. 26th to make way to a new Guild that will focus on live entertainment, but will include film events in its "public benefit" arts programming. You're invited to a free screening of the film "Cinema Paradiso" as a Goodbye Guild event on Wed. July 25th, 7:05-9:10, with doors open at 6:30 on a first-come/first-seated basis. Refreshments will be at the usual prices but there is no admission charge for the film in honor of the many years of the Guild theater. Film trailer: Web Link
The event is sponsored by the supporters of the Save the Guild Petition, which had 4000 signers online and at-the-theater, combined. The event was made possible by Landmark theater's giving up the scheduled film "Official Secrets" at the 7:05 time slot on Wed., to allow this free event honoring the many years of indie/arts/documentary films at the Guild, and in cooperation with the Peninsula Arts Guild, and to honor the service of the Guild's employees.

We weren't able to save the Guild as a full-schedule movie theater, and we mourn that loss, but we look forward to film opportunities at the new Guild. Were you one of the signers of the petition to save the Guild? or wish you had been? No matter - come and bring neighbors, friends, family to this screening of a wonderful film about a movie theater and the boy who loved it.
