Council votes to cut 165 street parking spots and add bike lanes on Jefferson and Chrysler drives

In order to offer safer passage by bike to Menlo Park's new high school, the City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night (Aug. 20) to remove 165 parking spaces on Jefferson and Chrysler drives and add bike lanes.

I'm sure the bicyclists would rather ride in the center of the lane than in the gutter, but realistically, car modern drivers are so distracted by their iphones that bike lanes are just safer. Blame the iphone for the loss of these parking spaces. Don't blame the students.

"No place for people who are lost to stop and consult a map" Seriously? I mean seriously?!?

Do those people also need to look for a phone booth or manually roll down their windows to ask for directions? It's the 21st century - when was the last time you saw someone looking at a map?

If they're that concerned, they could convert a handful of spaces to 15 minute parking for those folks to get out their yellow pages.

Good job prioritizing the safety of students over a small inconvenience for some Facebook employees. (Who do you think is street parking there?)
