Stanford pitches $4.7B deal to county for campus expansion

Stanford University offered Santa Clara County a deal on Monday that would commit $4.7 billion toward housing, transportation projects and public schools in exchange for approval of the university's expansion plans.

And what about all the negative impacts on Menlo Park and San Mateo County? Anyone fighting the good fight for us against the "robber baron" and it's developers?

You are hitting on the challenge of local government. Everyone lovers "local government" when it is responsive and protects local parochial interests. But local government also sticks us with "externalities", costs and benefits that accrue from the actions of others, mostly neighboring jurisdictions. There is very little for San Mateo county to fight about with most of Stanford land and development within Santa Clara.
