This type of crossing is totally ineffective.
The Fire Board voted long ago to fund half the cost of a four way Hawk signal that would require vehicles to come to a full stop and to loan the City the remaining 50% so that this could be built immediately.
The city has ignored this offer!!

I agree that the present arrangement is ineffective.
I was hoping that there was a solution acceptable from a traffic, cost and safety perspective, so that something could be done immediately to prevent road kill.

ONE WEEK after being approached by the neighbors on this issue.The Fire Board adopted its resolution on these Hawk signals exactly TWO YEARS ago today and authorized the Chief so spend up to $175k on this project and to loan the city another $175 k for its share of the cost.
Nothing has happened.

Motion: Upon motion by Director Carpenter, seconded by Director Silano, the Board authorized the Fire Chief to enter into discussions and agreement with the City of Menlo Park to install a hybrid beacon traffic signal (HAWK) on Middlefield Road and Linfield Drive and Santa Monica Avenue to support emergency response from Fire Station No. 1 and a mutually beneficial proposal for an improved and safer pedestrian and bicycle crossings from the Group Parents for Safe Routes to School for an amount not to exceed $175,000. The Board stated that if the City of Menlo Park is unable to designate funds for this project in the next fiscal year, the Fire Board authorized the District to fund the full cost of the project provided that the City of Menlo Park agrees to reimburse the Fire District in FY 2018/19 for 50% of the cost of the project. (Vote: 5-0-0)

Great job, Peter. The odds are strong that someone will be killed here.
$175k seems a very low cost insurance policy.
The city would be liable for millions and responsible for an innocent, and likely disabled person's death.
I have some difficulty walking- this feels like a waiting trap.
