Really sloppy reporting by the Almanac. Where is the mention that Vandemoer kept NONE of the money for himself (unlike all of the other coaches involved)?
According to the WSJ:
“U.S. District Judge Rya Zobel said she was moved to impose a softer sentence than what the government recommended because of Mr. Vandemoer’s unique position in the case—having not pocketed money for himself.”
More: “I have no doubt that he knew what he was doing was probably wrong,” Judge Zobel said. However, she added, there was general agreement he was “probably the least culpable” of all the coaches in the case.”
More from the WSJ: “Upon receipt, Vandemoer personally matched each check he received directly down to the Development office.”

I don't believe he didn't pocket money. Does everyone who breaks a law get away without serving any jail time? If no one is punished for breaking laws and rules, our society will crumble.
