Redwood trees do not belong anywhere near buildings in an urban environment. Like cute little infants they grow up fast into large unrestrained resource consuming teenagers.

An abuse of the appeal system. Appeal after appeal, etc. As stated by Whatever, Redwood should not have been planted near the building.

The appeal process is fine and serves a very necessary purpose. It was appealed to the council and they made the final call, the trees will be removed and many more planted around Menlo. I am sure not everyone is happy but it was a good compromise and in the end the city gets more trees and the property owner can make his repairs.

After reading a lot of the tree ordinance (very restrictive), I thought about the 3 sprouts redwood trees I planted in my own yard that were close to the border w/ my neighbor. about 10 years ago. They were cute gave nice shade I would love to have kept them for another 5 or 5-10 years

Like most average joe's I had know idea how close the were to becoming protected heritage trees

After consulting an arborist, I was told approx 1 year of more growth before we would have no know choice but to keep them permanently.

I was shocked that the little sprouts I planted next to my driveway would prevent me from someday cutting them down and building in the future.

My suggestion is pull up the tree ordinance get a friend and go do a tree survey asap. Find out how many trees are getting close enough to not being able to cut down, and cut them down. Don't expect the city to give you any flexibility on which one's can stay especially oak's and redwood trees
