While I loath Trump and the administration, cancelling the $900+k is the right thing to do.

With regard to the 2.5 billion, IMHO California should try to let the financials decide what to do here. Specifically:

* If finishing Bakersfield-2-Merced were to cost more than 2.5 billion, then the state should just return 2.5 billion to the Feds and repurpose the carbon-tax dollars to more worthy projects.

* If finishing Bakersfield-2-Merced were to cost less than 2.5 billion, it may make sense to finish it. Though that will mean that the state will be in violation of Prop1A, which mandated NO operational subsidy, and it's impossible to make Bakersfield-2-Merced financially self-sufficient; there's physically just not enough people projected to use it for that to happen. So, I suspect the state should need to backfill Prop1A funds, since there's no way to meet those requirements (not that CAHSR was ever going to achieve that anyways, but now it's not even theoretically possible to meet Prop1A requirements).

So the state really has itself in a bind. Good job, (former) Governor Brown!

What role does Congress' power of the purse play here?

Sounds like his little ****ing contest will just keep a bunch of lawyers busy.

Why do the California Powers forget this:

The Supremacy Clause of the United States Constitution (Article VI, Clause2) establishes that the Constitution, federal laws made pursuant to it, and treaties made under its authority, constitute the supreme law of the land.

Federal law..... TRUMPS state law....

I also loathe Trump and agree with Peninsula Resident.
Remember those "federal funds" are our tax dollars.

Of course Trump is a disgusting embarrassment of a president, and of course paying the cancelling the 900K is right. People with brains and the ability to use them agree.

Another positive move by the Trump administration! Keep at it!

A few things of the Trump administration is against:
— full term abortion aka infanticide
— increasing income tax rates to 70%
— open borders
— a wealth tax of 2% on net worth over $50M
— elimination of private health insurance plans
— banning the 2nd amendment
— elimination of the use of fossil fuels for energy
— socialism
— Maduro government in Venezuela
— denying due process to the accused in college sex trials and hearings
— having NATO members not pay their agreed share
— business as usual with China in trade

What a coincidence! Most Democrats are against those things, too.

Here's what else Democrats are against:

* Rapists
* Racism
* Sexism
* banning the 1st amendment
* banning the 15th amendment
* Running massive budget deficits during economic expansion

True dat, Janie.

Trump just set a RECORD TRADE DEFICIT with China. $419 BILLION trade deficit with CHINA in 2018.

So he clearly isn't for " business as usual with China in trade"!!!

from aljazeera two hours ago: Web Link

"US trade deficit surges to 10-year high; a record gap with China
The skyrocketing US trade deficit hit the highest level in a decade last year despite Trump's global-trade offensive."

"The United States trade deficit surged to a 10-year high in 2018, with the politically sensitive shortfall with China hitting a record peak, despite the Trump administration slapping tariffs on a range of imported goods in an effort to shrink the gap."

What a toupee'd bozo. Can't believe there are locals with an education that buy into all his lies.
