Menlo Park firm developing device to stop postpartum bleeding

At a nondescript office nestled on Edison Way in North Fair Oaks, a small company is hard at work developing a medical device that could transform the way physicians treat postpartum hemorrhage, the world's leading cause of maternal death.

What a wonderful invention. Best wishes to all of you to get speedy FDA approval and worldwide adoption. I hope that the cost can be low for third world buyers, re-useable, and part of the normal kit in clinics, hospitals, and mobile health practitioners.

I nearly lost my sister-in-law to postpartum hemorrhage (amniotic fluid embolism). It was a horrific ordeal that she was lucky to survive, so I'm encouraged to hear about any innovation in this field. The United States' statistics on postpartum maternal mortality are unacceptably high.
