Challengers square off against an appointed incumbent for sheriff

Original post made on May 10, 2018

Until late April, the race for sheriff of San Mateo County had been a two-man affair -- between appointed incumbent Sheriff Carlos Bolanos and Deputy Mark Melville. Now it's three: Deputy Heinz Puschendorf is a write-in candidate.

Two points "Bolanos, the sheriff since he was appointed by a majority on the Board of Supervisors in July 2016"

This was a coup, an illegal appointment of Carlos Bolanos to Sheriff on July 12, 2016. It was led by Supervisor Don Horsley who should have recused himself because his son is employed by the Sheriff Office. Carlos Bolanos did not fill out an application to be appointed, nobody did. Mark Melville would have if the appointment process had be opened it was not. There was no Appointment Process. The Sheriff Office is for the residents to fill.

"An incident that continues to dog Bolanos occurred in 2007, when he and then-sheriff Greg Munks were detained by Las Vegas police in connection with an FBI sting operation involving illegal brothels."

They were caught and detained as Customers of Human Trafficked Sex Slaves including a Child.

That is a different story than what Mr. Bolanos and County Government Official are promoting..."massage parlor" "outside" "It's not illegal to be at a massage parlor" etc.

Carlos Bolanos has refused to answer honestly questions about what really happened the night of April 21, 2007.

The Sheriff's Office is all about giving positions to friends and family. Positions would be created and not go through the standard County hiring process. Just look at all the so call "Management Analyst" positions that has been created in the past year.

Don't forget that "everyone" detained in the FBI sting operation had to be released because Munks and Bolanos was there. That's Obstruction of Justice.

Be sure you know who you're voting for completing your ballot.

Bolanos got a lot of his endorsements as early as 3+ years before this election cycle. In fact, he was able to get some prior to Sheriff Munks announcing he wouldn't be running for another term in 2018.

The majority of the endorsements mean nothing because they weren't choosing Bolanos over anyone else. He wasn't scrutinized along with his challengers and chosen as the "best" over the challengers. He was chosen because he was the only one asking.

It's pretty rare for an official to revoke an endorsement, because it makes you look terrible as a politician or ranking official. You're going to defend your decision to save face.

Those who have revoked their endorsements did so after learning the whole truth about Bolanos and some admitted to not doing much research before endorsing him, which tells you further that endorsements really don't mean a whole lot in this race.

Yes, progressives are still for Melville. As well as the #metoo advocates who aren’t buying Bolanos’ excuse that he thought he was going to a legitimate place of business for a massage when all of the neighbors near brothel knew there was illegal activity gong on there. He must not be very bright. Bolanos didn’t know the difference between the Bellagio and a brothel? Hmm. Ok.

A citizen who filed a FOIA request to the FBI for full , unredacted report on Operation Dollhouse- that includes information on raid from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department- has been notified that they will be receiving it this month. Pass the popcorn.
