Film and Discussion: Poor People's Campaign, 2018

Original post made by Peninsula/Palo Alto Women's Intl. League for Peace and Freedom, another community, on May 1, 2018

Event: A film about and discussion of the new Poor People’s Campaign
Tuesday May 15, 7-9pm. Mitchell Park Library, 3700 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto. Free and open to the public.

Have the lives of poor Americans, women and blacks improved in the 50 years since Martin Luther King led the Poor People's Campaign? An extensive investigation into the current status of all Americans has found a significant number of Americans are struggling with the connected evils of persistent poverty, systemic racism, increasing militarism, and ecological devastation. Therefore a new, nationwide, Poor People’s Campaign (PPC) has been started, with a list of demands to improve all American’s lives.

At this event you will learn about the investigation’s report: The Souls of Poor Folk, which brings us toward an honest confrontation with our own history—how our path has unfolded since 1968 and how our nation suffers from a distorted moral vision. You will learn about the demands of the new Poor People’s Campaign and what you can do to help.

Co-sponsored by the Peninsula/Palo Alto and San Jose branches of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom. Website of the PPC: www.poorpeoplescampaign.org. Contact WILPF for more information:wilpf.peninsula.paloalto@gmail.com
