Seriously...Why not put "undisclosed amount"? I would advise the Sheriff's office not to disclose the amount involved in a residential burglary. When was the last time you saw an amount stolen in a bank robbery?

Please don't suggest that simply because the neighbor had that kind of money there was some sort of problem with it. There are a few legitimate reasons for having cash on hand for business purposes or if you don't trust banks.
Many people in the Bay Area hold considerable assets themselves. It's not rare.
There is however no good reason to publish details of a crime like that.
Foul on you Almanac. Crime is bad enough without highlighting opportunities.

Janet: Let's not blame the victim. If you are in the circulation area of this news outlet, you are put at risk when specifics of a crime such as this are published. Others are to blame here, the criminal first and foremost!

Honestly, do none of you have valuable jewelry, watches, or other items that might add up to a significant amount? Computers? Stereo equipment? For all you know, they were about to buy a car with cash. Since there was no evidence of forced entry, it does lend credence that someone knew about it ahead of time, and swiped it while the owners were away for the weekend.
Let's not blame the victims here.

BTW... A lot of folks pay with cash these days. Some are forced to deal in cash, even for legal transactions. Dispensaries, growers....

Also plenty of reasons to think of when it may be advantageous that moneys or other small highly valuable assets (jewelry) are officially no longer associated with the original owner.
Then the miraculous burglary/theft out of thin air and without a trace is a popular option.
