I am sure Mr. Mason has contributed a lot to his community, but I certainly wish he had been able to speak up for the rights of animals and help push for a ban on the annual 4th of July pig scramble in Woodside, a cruel event which many Woodside residents oppose. Not impressed.

[Portion removed; be respectful of other posters] I live in Mr. Mason's district, and he has been an outstanding representative for the community, doing so for fourteen years without any compensation (unlike the Menlo Park Council). The Pig Scramble was/is a contentious issue on both sides and the Woodside Town Council made the right decision voicing that "attempting to ban a legal activity was outside of their portfolio." Mr. Mason, by the way, recused himself from that discussion because of a conflict of interest, so it is shameful that you should criticize him for not speaking up to support your issue. You should also know that the dialogue between residents of Woodside on the Pig Scramble issue were respectful, and the majority of protesters and aggressive and disrespectful behavior came from people who were not from Woodside.

Peter Mason volunteered many years of service to our town and generously shared his expertise. Peter was a fair and approachable representative, one of the classiest guys to ever serve on our Town Council and always displayed honesty and integrity.
I am VERY grateful to Peter for his service!

Apparently the moderator deleted my opening comments because they were interpreted as being disrespectful of the earlier poster, which was certainly not my intent. I apologize to the moderator if I came across that way. Let me try to explain my intent without using words that the moderator might think disrespectful. The earlier poster was not a resident of Woodside but was critical of Mr. Mason for not supporting her/his position on a single issue that occurred in Woodside, not Menlo Park where she/he is from. My intent was to ask her/him to let Woodsiders who have observed Mr. Mason's contributions to the community over many years be the judges of his performance.
