Not gonna happen, girlfriend. Why don't you save your time and money, and campaign for one of the already candidates for governor.

Great opportunity for one of the minor parties to snatch the election from the splintered Democrats.

Nice try, Hickey. But you got it wrong again, as usual.

Got a feeling she was recruited by Gavin Newsom’s campaign to take some votes from Tony Valar, or whatever name the ex LA mayor uses now.

I hope Ms. Renteria is the Democratic Party vote getter in the June primary.

I applaud Ms. Renteria for stepping forward and putting the focus on important issues. Thank you!

If you want a candidate who is putting the focus on important issues in California, support John Chiang.

I am happy to hear that a woman is stepping up to run for governor. It takes a lot of courage and I thoroughly applaud Ms. Renteria. We definitely need more women in government.
It is, however, distressing that Kate Bradshaw, the author of this article, omitted mentioning the presence of Michael Shellenberger, another recently announced Democratic candidate, running as a climate "hawk" and aiming to reverse both California's increasing methane and carbon emissions as well as consumer costs of energy.
Michael Shellenberger, renown energy researcher and thinker, who co-wrote the Ecomodernist Manifesto, is trying to bring more rational clean energy policies to this state, which prides itself on being a climate leader but which has lost its leadership and has vastly expanded natural gas usage under Jerry Brown, who together with his sister, has financial interests in oil and gas sales.
Brown and Newsom are dismantling California's fully-paid reliable clean energy investments in nuclear power, vastly boosting demand for natural gas. If they really were focused on climate, they'd be dismantling fracking and natural gas, increasing renewables but keeping our nuclear going as long as possible. Then we'd have an abundance of cheap, clean energy and we'd have money to electrify everything and add water purification and carbon draw-down from the excess. Instead, Brown has moved California in the wrong direction, allowing New York State under Cuomo to leap frog us and become the climate leader of the country.
As far as I can see, only Shellenberger (who was named as one of Time magazine’s Heroes of the Environment in 2008), would provide the climate leadership that we Californians (and the world leaders looking to us to model how to rapidly achieve the Paris commitments) needs.

I'm so heartened that we have some fresh faces entering the Gubernatorial primary. It's awesome that a woman is running, and I'm also really excited about Michael Shellenberger. Right now, what we need more than anything is smart, honest, open minded candidates who aren't beholden to corporate interests and PACs, and who work for their constituents, not their donors, to enter races up and down the ballot, all over the country.

Anyone but Newsom. I could get behind John Chiang.

Great fun looking at the comments from republicans above. They sure do love talking about Democrats these days, one notes. Perhaps it's because at either the state or the national level, their own party is indefensible.

@smgop: you'll have to forgive the conservative commenters above; their failed party can't win a statewide office, nor a bay area congressional seat. It's very frustrating for them and they need to let off little steam.
And yes, they've not much to be proud of at the national level either.
Be kind.
