The article says, “Traffic is an area of major concern, although since 2000, Stanford has largely upheld its policy of "no net new trips.”

I’m curious why Stanford seems to be held to a higher or more strict standard in terms of development compared to other surrounding communities. Perhaps I’m wrong, but I recall reading somewhere that Stanford is limited by the county on the percent of their campus that can have buildings on it —and they seem to be held to this “no net new trips” standard, which doesn’t seem to be a requirement for other developments.

I know other (non Stanford) major development proposals must also be approved and go through Environmental Impact analysis, etc. but my impression is Stanford seems to be held to a higher standard and more restrictions. Perhaps I’m mistaken.

I’m genuinely curious if it’s just my mistaken impression or if there’s some truth to this notion. Thanks

Stanford is always held to a higher standard and it is light years ahead of others - they have had paid parking and a free shuttle for FORTY years!!
