Why do most spare the air days occur on holidays? Thanksgiving, Christmas and Nee Years for starters?

@Jason Answer: Climate change. It never used to be this way and last year when we had some rain it wasn't the case.

We have already lost is a registered user.
Another bureaucracy created to deprive us of choice. I would like to see a list of people who work for this group and how much they're getting paid, A little transparency would be nice. Can someone at the Almanac get a contact for this group or publish their list of employees, and salary's
I personally will build a fire tonight, as I did on Christmas.
If you are told by the government that you can't have a fire on Christmas Day then we have already lost.

Commenter from Menlo Park -- "If you are told by the government that you can't have a fire on Christmas Day then we have already lost."
1) How bloody immature.
2) If you think that smog is good for you, you obviously slept through science class in high school.
3) Guess who guess to breathe the smog you generate so carelessly?

"Yet more"
Based on your logic, All grocery stores would shut down because most shoppers and products at some point in their life cycle will come in to contact with nuts of some type, Referring to the edible form. Some times fatal to those with allergies.
and we should only drive electric cars as gas driven produce deadly pollution.
I'm sorry for the people with allergies to smoke but I'm sure even they would consider Christmas day and New Years Eve as a fair compromise.
Suggest you go after the gas powered leaf blowers, between the air polluting gas motors, the noise and the particulates they blow into the air they are much more unhealthy.

From a recent KQED article,
Yet more nonsense"
FYI
"Yes, really, there will be more pollution from gas-powered gardening equipment than from cars".
According to state air quality officials, those machines are some of the biggest polluters in California. In fact, by 2020, leaf blowers and other small gas engines will create "More" ozone pollution than (ALL) of the Passenger Cars in the State.
Yes, really, there will be more pollution from gas-powered gardening equipment than from cars, confirms Michael Benjamin, division chief at the California Air Resources Board.
Suggest you prioritize, Now can I have a fire on New Years Eve?

Air pollution the last two days has been particularly bad. Driving over the Dumbarton Bridge both days, I could not see the other side, or much further south than the rail bridge, and the haziness was not due to fog, but smog. It's nearly Beijing like out there. Yes, my driving was contributing (I'm sorry!), but I have not seen it so bad as this in ages.
