Atherton police looking for hit and run driver who injured bicyclist

A bicyclist was injured in a hit and run collision in Atherton this morning, and police are looking for a vehicle described as possibly a blue 1996-2002 Saturn Ion, last seen traveling westbound on Atherton Avenue.

Why does the article already say "accident" when the perp has not yet been apprehended? How do we know they were not DUI or reckless driving, which would clearly not be an accident? That is in addition to hit-and-run which is a criminal act, not a traffic violation.

Thank you for changing the article to say "collision" instead of "accident". "Accident" is really a form of victim-blaming that we have to move away from. I hope the driver is caught soon and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

and be barred from ever driving again. Too many of cars hitting peds. and bicyclists and drivers fleeing the scene.
