Atherton puts parcel tax renewal on November ballot

Atherton's City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to put a three-year renewal of the town's parcel tax, which costs the average homeowner $750 a year, on the Nov. 7 ballot.

I will be voting NO. If the Council hadn't opted for an over the top wasteful Civic Center rebuild, it would not be necessary to renew the parcel tax. As a "senior" with limited income, this tax really hurts.

The city council has been incredibly arrogant by discounting the arguments of the opposition group as well as the results of the vote that did not meet the 2/3rd threshold. To add insult to injury, two weeks after the vote, the project manager said expect costs to go up 10%. Clear NO vote from me also.
