Lauren Goodkind's last name may reflect noble human qualities, but when it comes to playing chess, she says she can leave those attributes -- certainly the "kind" one -- at the door.

Hello, thank you for sharing your interesting story. I wish they had mandatory chess in schools for students between the ages of 4 and 12. This would be a benefit to the students and chess.

Lauren Goodkind drew Peter Thiel in round 5 of the McIlrath Memorial tournament in 2003 in Burlingame, CA.

Given that she was rated 600 points below him, that is an extraordinary upset.
