Too bad the ALMANAC couldn't have included a few photos of the demonstrators out front, protesting the children's cruel "pig scrambles" (see slide show): hordes of screaming children chasing numbers of terrified baby pigs. The rodeo also featured a petting zoo and pony rides--a really mixed message for the kids (and a violation of State Education Code 60042).
Consider this statement from world-renowned animal behaviorist, Dr. Temple Grandin: "In assessing criteria for suffering, psychological stress--which is fear stress--should be considered as important as suffering induced by pain."
All rodeo animals are "prey" animals. As such, they fear for their very lives when chased, grabbed, dragged, ridden, roped or otherwise handled roughly. For most, the rodeo is merely a detour en route to the slaughterhouse. They (and we) deserve better. THE PIG SCRAMBLES NEED TO GO.

Perhaps a county-wide ordinance is in order....

"of the demonstrators out front"
Both of them together? Or singly?
You can post pics if you like. Also in your hometown newspaper.

We do have photos of the protesters who picketed against the pig scramble yesterday in Woodside, along with a story by reporter Dave Boyce, who says about 20 people were protesting.
