Having had the misfortune to attend Willow and Willow Oaks school, which are part of the Ravenswood School district I would have to say that they were horrible then and I have not seen any evidence that they are any better today. To say the adequately prepare students for High School is a gross understatement. At the time I went there I can attribute the problem to what I saw as two primary factors, some horrible teachers (who did not really care about the students learning at all) and parents who for the most part did not care to, or have the time to take an active role in their children's education (or even consider it important). The latter making the former only worse.
I hope they are able to make some great improvements, because by the state ratings they are still doing an extremely poor job at educating students. Given the other story about a no confidence vote of the superintendent by the teachers it sounds like the school district needs do a deep evaluation of everyone from teachers to administrators to staff and clean house.
