John Boyle Heads San Mateo GOP

John Boyle, a former Menlo Park city councilmember, now leads the San Mateo County Republican Party as its new chair.

Boyle looks at the San Mateo GOP like a startup company: he wants to grow a small operation into a big one. He says focus on the main goals is key. The first is to raise Republican voter registration while also raising awareness of the modern Republican Party. The second is to recruit and support Republicans who can run for office and win.

"Raising awareness of the modern Republican Party."

The modern Republican Party? Is that what we are calling the Party of Trump these days?

"...to recruit and support Republicans who can run for office and win."

Remember what John Boyle's goals are the next time he does or doesn't endorse a candidate in a Menlo Park election.

Welcome John! And a hearty congrats!

You are the leader of the Menlo Park 13!

(13% of MP that voted for Donald Trump)

How do you feel about about Trump telling us over the weekend (just one weekend) that:
- he will give away trade concessions and jobs to China
- he gave up on His Wall in the budget bill
- he again realized that he can't repeal ObamaCare as promised
- he will have a notorious human-rights violate to the White House (Dudarte)
- he will be HONORED to meet the NK dictator
- he somehow thought the racist Andrew Jackson was alive during the Civil War
- he skipped the WHCD which honored the First Amendment (first POTUS since Reagan to do so

Note: Reagan skipped it because he WAS SHOT a week earlier; Trump skipped it because he had his shorts in a twist, and needed to go to a friendly crowd as an ego boost.

And he visited a Trump gold course for the 8th straight weekend.

Trump golfed at least 14 times in his first 100 days, 13 times more than Obama, after Trump promised you he wouldn't golf much.

Any comment on your Republican Leader's weekend, John?

How was your weekend?

John, seriously: When GOP leaders like Chaffetz and others are running away because of Trump, is this a good time to step in?

As Trump said yesterday:

"I don't stand by anything"

YES - we need Republican leaders like John now more than ever or else the vacuum will be filled be much less wise and less principled people.

Peter Carpenter -- "YES - we need Republican leaders like John now more than ever or else the vacuum will be filled be much less wise and less principled people."

Hate to break it to you, but have you seen what the GOP is attracting these days? Trump insisted that he would "drain the swamp"; instead, the swamp is being restocked...

Yet more - The budget agreement shows that the Republican Party is moving away from Trump.

And I firmly believe that a strong two party system is vital to our democracy.

Who was that CA GOP chair a few years ago who said running the party was like a lesson in bankruptcy?

Better luck, Mr Boyle.

"The budget agreement shows that the Republican Party is moving away from Trump"

Or

The GOP can't get it's factions together to govern.

Yep. The dems have had control of this state for how long? And they've done such a wonderful job that all they can think of is to tax and tax some more. Not to mention building a train to nowhere to appease their organized labor benefactors. Yeah, they've been doing a great job. The roads are s**t yet their answer is to add to the gas tax BUT they don't want the language of the tax to say the money from the added tax MUST go to road projects. NOOOOO it can go to whatever BS they want to divert it to. Just another end run around tax increase requirements of a 2/3's majority. Sorry, it's time for moderate republicans (not Trump republicans if you aren't sharp enough to figure that out) to have a seat at the table running this state. The dems are in the process of running it into the ground. Yes, we have the 8th largest economy.....blah blah blah....that isn't going to last forever at the rate the dems are going. No, I'm not a pug, nor am I a libertarian. I'm an independent that is sick of partisan politics at the detriment of the people that live here to benefit the politicians and the people that buy them.

Considering Boyle's absolutely dismal, nothing but being obstinate in his one-term on MP Council, the Republican Party could hardly find a worse person to lead any kind of improvement effort.

His appointment really means that the local Republican party will sink only further into its seemingly endless depths of despair.

"Who was that CA GOP chair a few years ago who said running the party was like a lesson in bankruptcy?"

It was Jim Brulte, who said: “This is a corporation that is bankrupt”

One assumes he meant financially, not morally. They then proved their working class bona fides with layoffs, by stiffing their suppliers and other debts they had and generally screwing those that offered them services in good faith.

In retrospect, almost Trumpian behavior.

We are not bankrupt. Ratings from Fitch, Moody's, S&P: - AA-, Aa3, AA. Not great, but hardly a sign of a bankrupt state. Our ratings since Prop 13 have never been stellar.

Reagan, Deukmejian, Wilson, Brown, Davis, Schwarzenegger etc.. have all had their tax hikes and troubles, certainly notably worse since Prop 13.

Brulte was at least honest about the state of the CA GOP when he took over. For that - kudos to him.

I can't imagine Boyle's answer being much different than the current CA GOP positions. Anyone ask him?

Republicans voting on a bill that hasn't had public hearings or been scored by the CBO.

Aren't they the ones who lied about dems doing that with obamacare?

I have to take exception to Old Tier's comments. John Boyle was perhaps the best city council member we have had in recent history. I can remember Kelly Fergusson's continuous ethics problems, Heyward Robinson's explosive temper and anger management issues, and Jack Morris' and Gail Slocum's obstructionism.

John Boyle brought an analytical approach to the council, exploring all facets of ideas and fully embodied Socratic inquiry. He was not political. Instead he searched for the best ways to solve problems in collaboration with his fellow council members with the spirit of inclusiveness. I for one really appreciate the level of professionalism he brought to the Council and am hopeful that he will make similar contributions to the San Mateo County Republican Party.

Hank Lawrence is an elected delegate of the San Mateo County Republican Party.

Hank you should have tweeted your post disparaging former dem electeds and praising the new GOP Chairman who is seeking and encouraging Republicans to run for local office.

Okay.

Liberal Democrats, I know it is hard for you to accept the tragic Hillary Clinton election loss resulting in the Trumpocalypse but there is a way to treat your anxiety and depression. Try using Blameitol. It really works

I didn't see any Democrats raise the election topic above. These days, it seems it's always brought up by some hard core fringie, sort of like some old dude trying to relive a high school sports moment.

Or by Trump himself, making excuses for losing the popular vote and lying about it for his own ego.

He has to do so because Trump is proving day after day that he lied to his voters.

Can't defend Trump. Please try. We can use the laugh!

Let's give Trump and Paul Ryan kudos for dragging the Trumpcare bill through the swamp of the House. Cook immediately moved 20 GOP seats into "tossup".

What are Boyles thoughts on Trumpcare?

John Boyle was selected as Chair by the County Central Committee members. His role is to set the agenda and chair the meetings. Anyone with input or concerns can attend those meetings, which are open to the public. As a Democrat, I won't be attending the County GOP meetings, but I'm confident Mr. Boyle will do a fine job.

Will Mr. Boyles agenda tie in with support for the national leader of the GOP, Donald J. Trump?

As a Republican, I am curious.

Artie, Trump is more than the national leader of the GOP. Trump is currently the leader of our great Nation and possibly the free world. Personally, I'm with Mitt Romney on Trump, "Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud. His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University. He's playing the American public for suckers: He gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat" Web Link

Whether or not you like Trump, the American People elected him. Sadly, Trump recently declared, "I don't stand by anything" Web Link

That said, John Boyle is a man of integrity; willing to take on this leadership role. The best forum for discussion on the direction for the County GOP is at their central committee meeting.

The best forum for Boyle is a lightly attended meeting of republicans?

Whats Boyle hiding?

Doesn't a leader share his agenda with the public through commonly views outlets?

This is why common folk are concerned about local republicans.

Artie, we can all assume that bylaws of the County, State and National GOP — as with any party — dictate support for the endorsed candidate of their party. If you want to learn about the County GOP, visit their website: Web Link or sign up form email updates to see the monthly agenda: Web Link

"bylaws of the County, State and National GOP ... dictate support for the endorsed candidate of their party"

Nice dictate ya got there - Party before Principle.

Dictated by the SMGOP. Will John Boyle change the SMGOP by-laws to give his proclaimed integrity a chance to shine? Or will he just be dictated to by Trump?

As Trump said last week: "I don't stand by anything"

"Will John Boyle change the SMGOP by-laws...?"

The proposed anti-Trump change is not possible for a county party committee, which inherits elements from the State and National party bylaws. Also, the chair only sets monthly agendas. Robert's Rules of Order requires a 2/3 STAND UP vote for bylaws changes: Web Link
