Driver at fault in Jan. 19 car vs. train accident on Palo Alto tracks

An accident between a commuter train and an SUV last Thursday could have resulted in catastrophe, but instead the out-of-town driver and his three passengers got off with a very close shave -- literally.

Question: does Caltrain (or anyone else) pursue financial damages in cases like these? If you delay tens of thousands, that's surely several hundred thousand in damages, at least, even if there's no other damage.

If the driver was at fault, then it was not an accident. Please use a more accurate word, such as collision.
