Will you stand with Menlo Park's immigrant community?

Original post made by Belle Haven Resident, Menlo Park: Belle Haven, on Jan 20, 2017

Please attend the Menlo Park City Council meeting on January 24th starting at 7 PM. At this meeting, the council will consider passing a resolution or city ordinance to 'affirm Menlo Park's commitment to a diverse, supportive, inclusive and protective community.'

We don't know what the new president is going to do about immigration enforcement. There is speculation about a possible revocation of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) which would impact thousands of students in the Bay Area including more than 1,000 students at De Anza college. Our immigrant families in Menlo Park, including children in Menlo Park schools, are feeling vulnerable and concerned about being targeted and detained because of their immigration status.

Adopting a sanctuary ordinance in the city of Menlo Park would ensure that our city employees neither ask community members about their immigration status nor tell federal agents about people's immigration status. To learn more about what it means to be a sanctuary city, please visit www.sancuarysiliconvalley.org.

I urge everyone who cares about supporting our immigrant community to attend this Tuesday's city council meeting and speak out! I'll be there for sure.

Not just immigrants need to be worried. The "ALT RIGHT" stuff that the Trump people are spouting should be troubling all non-white or non-Protestant Americans.

Should the city try to protect them?

I strongly disagree with this movement to protect illegal immigrants. I stand by MP's immigrant community, but not those who broke the law to get here. The city should not declare itself a sanctuary city. The city should support other law enforcement agencies on immigration and other multi-jurisdictional activities.
