Improve the MPCSD by Electing David Ackerman as a Board Trustee

Original post made by Sentinel, Atherton: Lindenwood, on Nov 7, 2016

As a member of the MPCSD community for 15 years, David Ackerman demonstrated a clear understanding of the needs and concerns of the students, parents, staff and community members in Atherton, Menlo Park, and the East Palo Alto families who participated in the Tinsley Program.

David possesses the following assets that would strengthen the MPCSD Board:
-Deep knowledge of educational practices that improve student learning
-Understanding of school finance and the current fiscal challenges faced by the MPCSD
-15 years of experience as a principal in the MPCSD and 30 years of experience as a teacher and administrator in 3 large, urban school districts. Unlike most Board members, whose sole experience working with public schools has been in the MPCSD, David possesses a diverse background that will enrich and improve the work of the Board.

David understands how the MPCSD Board has operated and areas that need to be improved, (e.g., the need for effective, transparent communication with district stakeholders). As a principal, David attended every regular MPCSD Board meeting. During those meetings, he was typically the only site-level administrator who was bold enough to share a dissenting perspective with the Board. David understands the strengths and the long-standing weaknesses of the Board. He will bring a refreshing vitality to Board discussions, and he will ensure that decisions are based upon community input, thorough research and accurate, pertinent data.

David is a lifelong learner who continually reads about best practices in education. As a principal, he was on the forefront of implementing innovative instruction, and he based decisions on what was best for students. He is a strong advocate for educational equity for all students, including students with disabilities and students of color.

David is ethical, honest, frank, and clear. If elected, his experience, skills and talents will greatly benefit MPCSD students, staff, parents and community members.
