Vancouver adds 15% tax on foreign buyers

Reduce the impact of foreign buyers driving up real estate costs:

Web Link

"Foreigners looking to purchase a home in Vancouver now face an additional tax of 15%, as Canadian authorities seek to temper a heated housing market that ranks as one of the world’s least affordable.

The tax will be levied on all home buyers in metro Vancouver who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents. The measure will also apply to corporations that are not registered in Canada or which are controlled by foreigners."

According to a thread on PA Online, most countries in Asia don't permit foreign buyers at all, and many European countries have an extra tax.

If both PA and MP institute such a tax (or even the county or state) it would at least reduce the overbidding some.

I vote for anything to cool the market a bit.
