Menlo Park Education Association (MPEA) is comprised of 205 certificated teachers that work in the Menlo Park City School District. MPEA recognizes that the upcoming school board election is of vital importance to all stakeholders in Menlo Park: students, taxpayers, and teachers alike.
In an effort to learn about candidate backgrounds, goals, and educational philosophies, MPEA hosted its own Meet-The-School-Board-Candidate event that was held on September 26th. Three out of four board candidates attended. Caroline Lucas did not respond to the invitation, and therefore did not attend this meeting. MPEA representatives also attended the League of Women Voters meeting on September 29th.
From these meetings, and from several one-on-one conversations with candidates, MPEA is endorsing David Ackerman and Scott Saywell for the two open board positions.
MPEA feels that Mr. Ackerman's decades of experience in all levels of education gives him an invaluable level of expertise and insight into the difficult job of being on the school district's governing board. MPEA feels that Mr. Saywell has the necessary business savy, community knowledge, and financial leadership to guide our district through challenging economic times ahead.
Menlo Park teachers love the work we do with children. We love the community we work in, and like any other stakeholder in this important election, we would like our voice to be heard. Thank you for your time.
