I am so disappointed in our local police and Sheriff departments. They spend an inordinate amount of time writing speeding tickets, when they should be actively engaged in solving crimes. I don't understand their lack of focus on CRIME!

Wondering --- I couldn't disagree more, and I'm sure any families with children / teeagers using bikes to travel to local schools would join me---speeding and distracted driving in our city and residential area puts lives at risk. Improving that situation is more important to me than trying to chase down some low-life that has run off with a few hundred / thousand dollars worth of property. Tickets are a proven deterrent.

Real: Thieves are breaking into our homes and cars, stealing our bikes and computers--and anything else valuable that's handy--and you're disappointed in the police?! I'm beyond disappointed that there are people out there who would do this. Besides taking our property, they are ruining the friendly, neighborly feel of Menlo. Taking bikes LOCKED at the library and from cars at the clinic for Pete's sake! (Altho I agree the parking police are overzealous in their job performance. Annoying, too.)

(I have been Joe from Allied Arts for some years, which I say so as not to confuse me with the previous person who posted.)

A note on stolen bikes: Locked bikes stolen from bike racks may be vulnerable because the owners are using locks that are such in name only. Unless it's a lock as as tough as a Kryptonite lock, a thief can cut through it in a few seconds.

The best part of all of this crime waive to how easy it was to steal the items. Left in cars, doors/window left unlocked. May as well leave neon lights to indicate hit this car/house.

I hope the wallet suspect received an abject apology!

Kryptonite locks can be easily broken. All you need is a little liquid nitrogen, a hammer and light tap and watch the lock shatter. It is mere child's play.
