Locals open up about housing struggles at Kepler's forum

Original post made on Sep 8, 2016

A group of children sat at the back of Kepler's Books in Menlo Park, as they fidgeted with their marker and glitter-paint posters. Their posters read: "Stop, this is our home. East Palo Alto is not for sale; community is priceless."

Thanks for this well-done article presenting a limited but clear
synopsis of the Community Housing event at Keplers.
Limited because the reporter was unable to contribute more valuable information here.
It seemed to me, from my standing point in the back of the audience,
there were closer to 100 people at the meeting.
Standing Room Only definitely applied to the crowd.
i was at the Event from 7:20 to 10:30 , so i heard all that was
presented and spent time talking with others afterward.
The City Council members present, Ray and Catherine deserve applause.
They were the Inspiration which created the Event with the
kind provisions by Keplers.
The contributions of members of the Bellhaven Community , folks from East Palo Alto , Mountain View and other areas beyond Menlo Park were valuable.
Important comments were made by a World War 2 Veteran who lived in Menlo Park 23 years and was forced out by developer's encroachments near the Downtown neighborhood. He is now having His life-savings devoured at an expensive Senior Community housing complex.
The children holding signs were constantly standing about the crowd so that their messages could be seen by all.
Kyra, from East Palo Alto, made significant comments.
Cecelia, who is running for City Council, contributed profound statements.
City Councilman Ray was very involved in listening and responding to the concerns of nearly everyone who spoke.
There was so much brought-up in this Keplers gathering that the Story really deserve a Second Story in The Almanac. 2 and a half hours and upwards of 30 people commenting from the audience and speaking from positions of Community leadership. This amount of conversations could use such a second presentation.
Hopefully, Keplers will follow-up with an additional meeting in the Fall, where updates of matters discussed may be presented.
