You care more about some news racks as compared the vacant lots up and down ECR? Seriously? No wonder this town is so screwed up.

All in all, in contributes to the blight. Just like the overflowing garbage cans and ugly news racks on Santa Cruz Ave. even the small things can make a difference.

I agree it looks like skid row,
You don't have to do anything to clean up the newspaper racks, Give the owners 30 days to install new racks, if they don't then remove them. Tell them they lost their spot and if they want they can apply for a permit under restrictions to maintain them or lose them again. Doesn't cost the city any money or time,

How hard can it be to apply a coat of paint now and then? Has anyone contacted the individual newspaper companies to see if there is any interest, such as the SF Chronicle, SF Examiner, Daily Post, Daily News, Almanac, PA Weekly, etc.? Suggest you start with one and see if you make any headway. If you do, go on to newspaper company #2. Chances are the newspapers will cry foul, saying FREEDOM OF INFORMATION allows them the right to do whatever they like. Really?
