I seriously doubt Speir and Eshoo would have raised significant issues with this appointment if not for the sheriff's connection to underage sex trafficking. Just read that again and think about it, "the sheriff's connection to underage sex trafficking." Insane.

@Bob
I'm not familiar with the 'sheriff's connection to underage sex trafficking' that you write about. I did just pull up the 2007 story from SFGATE.COM here:

Embarrassing story to say the least but no mention of "underage sex trafficking"
Please post your source.

Yes. We have a lot of people who READ what they want into articles. This is all old news, embarrassing yes. What are the good things the Sheriff/Undersheriff have done for the people of San Mateo County. What programs have been started/changed, etc. since they have been in office.

Here's a story from 2007 that has some detail on the case: Web Link
One minor, rest were here on tourist visas. Hm, 24 tourist visas but it wasn't sex trafficking? Interesting reasoning by the FBI. I guess the situation was a little more straightforward than more biased sources suggested.

@Bob
Thanks for posting the link.
It reads that 25 prostitutes were arrested at 8 separate locations and that one of the 24 was not 18 years old. I guess if the one underaged girl was at the location where Munks and Bolanos were found then they were indeed connected to 'underage sex trafficking'. If that claim is made, however, it should also be noted that neither of them was charged with any crime and both cooperated fully with the Las Vegas PD.
I think all pieces of the story should be told.

I agree that all pieces should be told. I think these two really threw a wrench in the operation by being there though. As you said it was in multiple locations, also it was the culmination of a very involved two year investigation. This wasn't just prostitution, it was sex trafficking.
Maybe if Almanac News staff reads this I'd ask that they remove or amend my original comment, you're right that I had the facts of the story wrong originally when I said he was connected to "underage" sex trafficking.
Eshoo said herself in 2007, "The whole element of accountability is missing. People simply don't know what happened that night." (Web Link
From that same article:
"Describing the house, Hermosillo said, "It smelled like urine, it smelled like feces, it smelled like cigarette smoke. It didn't look like a massage parlor. It was very obviously not a massage parlor."

No need to retract anything. You sound like an extremely reasonable man. And, as Ms. Eshoo said, we don't really know what happened that night.
Only one thing for certain, those two men made a big mistake.

who cares what they've done since then. They both should have been FIRED for their incredibly poor judgement. We have a right to expect better from our highest law enforcement officials. If this hadn't happened in the most corrupt county of California they probably would have been fired.

And I'll add that if Munks or Bolanos had ANY integrity they would have tendered their resignations.

The FBI is very sensitive to the subject of why did they close a 2 year Human Trafficking Sex Slave Sting Operation Dollhouse with Sheriff Greg Munks and Undersheriff as the last 2 johns, That was a Saturday night about 9:30 PM
They are interested in anyone who wants to see the documents. Why? It's a closed case,
