"School District says budget has $900,000 in cuts."
This is a nice headline that sells papers but is filled with hyperbole and incites hysteria. In the words of Caryn Wasserstein, "Many of (the proposed cuts) are making my heart race right now.".
What was not disclosed at the June 7, MPCSD Board Meeting, was the amount of budget cuts that were the result of declines in the rate of spending growth versus, actual hard dollar cuts in spending.
At the June 13 MPCSD Board Meeting, the CBOO went to great lengths to stress that actual hard dollar cuts to spending were very little and there would be no reduction in programs or services. The proposed budget cuts are achievable due to increased efficiency gains and better utilization of technology assets as well as declines in the growth rate of future spending.
Scarcity is the mother of all invention. It is interesting to see that the District can find ways to be more efficient when the tax and spend regime is at risk.

Let's hope they use the windfall property tax gain to eliminate the remaining parcel taxes.
