School board members explain their job in the age of social media

Original post made on Jun 6, 2016

Despite a recent contentious parcel tax election and the fact that some difficult budget decisions may be ahead for the Menlo Park City School District's board, a dozen people showed up at a June 1 information night for potential candidates for open two board seats.

Please Explain why the parcel tax ballot had to be held as a special mail in election instead of adding to a general election at less cost.

Yet again, based on board members comments, they just don't get it. This wasn't about social media. This was about the board's lack of transparency and its sneaky attempt to slip something by the majority of Menlo Park voters. They will get push back the next time they try for another parcel tax (and they will) until they become transparent and honest in their dealings with the voters.

As a matter of fact, one of the things that is now becoming clear is that there is a looming problem coming in the increased CalSTRs contributions that will be required. No where did they mention this before the special election. They might have actually swayed some voters their way had they done so. This is but one example of the board's lack of transparency that bit them in the rear end.
